Statement from the Clerk
General

“This political posturing is unfortunate, especially on Election Day. I am proud of how my office is handling the hotly-contested and problematic election in Cicero. Allegations from both sides were passed on to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, U.S. Attorney’s office and the U.S. Department of Justice. Our effort to provide extra resources for this election was a proportional response, which has resulted in a smooth Election Day thus far.

Both campaigns have criticized us publicly for doing too much or too little. The greatest responsibility of the County Clerk is conducting fair elections and I’ve devoted more than two decades to the task. I certainly do not have a horse in this race. My office would be derelict in its duties if we did nothing simply because we feared criticism.”
