Cook County Clerk David Orr on Monday announced that he has named Abdelnasser Rashid his new Deputy Director of Vital Records.

“Abdelnasser brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team that I welcome,” Orr said. “He has demonstrated a passion for community engagement and public policy, as well as keen insight into connecting people with the services and information they need. I know he will be a valuable addition to our team.”

Previously, he served as Field Director to Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia’s campaign for mayor.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a government agency with a reputation as respectable as the Cook County Clerk’s Office,” Rashid said. “Many people don’t understand just how many facets of the county this office plays a part in — I look forward to making a difference with the great people I now have beside me.”

Rashid began his new position on August 3. He will work closely under the Director of Vital Records, Brenski Coleman.

Prior to joining Commissioner Garcia, Rashid worked for more than two years at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, where he oversaw policy and political programs.

Rashid was raised in the Ukranian Village/Wicker Park neighborhoods of Chicago. He received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He lives with his wife and newborn daughter in the southwest suburbs.
