What: Cook County’s first marriage of 2014
When: Thursday, Jan. 2 approximately 9 a.m.
Where: Couples should line up by 8:30 a.m. at the Clerk’s downtown Vital Records office, located in the lower level of the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington. The marriage ceremony will take place in Clerk Orr’s office (69 W. Washington, Fifth Floor, Chicago) after the couple applies for a license, agrees to be married immediately and a judge waives the standard 24-hour waiting period.
More: An annual tradition for more than 20 years, Clerk Orr has married the couple who obtains the first marriage license of the year. The lucky couple will receive an array of gifts donated by local businesses including the Palmer House Hilton, Broadway in Chicago, Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, and LaSalle Flowers. Clerk Orr also pays the marriage license fee.
