Technical review panel set

Retired Judge Mikva to chair independent team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, November 17, 2006

Cook County Clerk David Orr announced Friday the technical review team that will examine why results tabulated in many precincts were unable to be received and processed in a more timely manner by the central tally system during the Nov. 7 general election.

“I believe that this is a well-rounded group of experts who will assist us in assuring timely results in the future,” said Orr, fulfilling his Nov. 8 pledge to form the blue-ribbon team.

The unpaid, independent panel will be chaired by the Hon. Abner J. Mikva, who served as White House Counsel from 1994 until 1995. Prior to his appointment at the White House, Mikva served as Chief Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia circuit.

Prior to that, he was elected to Congress for five terms, representing portions of Chicago and its suburbs.

Given that there are elections in suburban Cook County in February and April, the panel has been asked to proceed expeditiously.

Other panel members include:

Xiaoping Jia is a software architect. He is a professor of software engineering and is also the Director of the Department of Software Engineering, School of Computer Science, Telecommunications, and Information Systems at De Paul University.

V.N. Venkatakrishnan is an assistant professor in computer science at the University of Illinois Chicago. His research areas include computer and network security.

Tricha Anjali is an assistant professor with Illinois Institute of Technology’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Her research interests are in the area of quality of service for broadband networks, network measurement, adaptive network management and optical networks.

Ian Robertson is Senior Director of Global IT – Americas for the William Wrigley Corp.

Cyrus Walker is the program coordinator for Wilbur Wright College’s Department of Computer Security and Forensic Investigation.
