Race to be decided by coin flip

County Clerk David Orr set to break tie

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

A coin toss, conducted by Cook County Clerk David Orr on Thursday, May 3, 2007 will determine the winner of the Bedford Park Village Trustee race.

The candidates—John “Chuck” Holloway and Ronald Robison—have been tied at 101 votes since the April 17th Consolidated Election. The two candidates are seeking the third trustee vacancy on the village board.

Under Illinois law, when two or more candidates “receive an equal and the highest number of votes for an office to be filled by the county alone, the county clerk shall issue a notice to such persons of such tie vote, and require them to appear at his office, on a day named in the notice, no later than 21 days following an election, and determine by lot which of them is to be declared elected.”

The coin toss will take place at the office of the Cook County Clerk, 69 W. Washington, Suite 500 at 2:00 PM. The loser of the coin toss will have the opportunity to file for a discovery recount if they so desire.
