New hours for downtown Marriage Bureau starting soon
The Cook County Clerk's downtown Marriage Bureau will soon extend hours on Wednesday nights and be closed on Saturday mornings.
The Marriage Bureau, located in the Daley Center Pedway, will have its last Saturday hours on Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. New Wednesday extended hours until 7 p.m. will begin on Feb. 10.
"Cutting Saturday mornings and adding weeknight hours allows us to be more efficient," Clerk David Orr said.
The switch also brings the downtown office in sync with the Clerk's suburban courthouse locations, which are already closed on Saturdays and open until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Business hours on Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Couples applying for a marriage license can do so at any of the Clerk's six locations:
- Downtown Chicago, 50 W. Washington, Room 113, in the Daley Center Pedway
- Skokie, 5600 W. Old Orchard Road, Room 149
- Rolling Meadows, 2121 Euclid Ave., Room 238
- Maywood, 1311 Maybrook Square, Room 109
- Markham, 16501 S. Kedzie, Room 238
- Bridgeview, 10220 S. 76th Ave., Room 238
From 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights, couples applying at the downtown Chicago location must use the Daley Center's northwest entrance, nearest the intersection of Clark and Randolph streets.
After a couple applies for a license, they must wait until the following calendar day to get married. The license is valid for 60 days and is effective only for marriages that occur in Chicago and suburban Cook County.
