More than 60 candidates were in line by 9 a.m. today at the Cook County Clerk’s office to submit paperwork to run in the March 20, 2012 Presidential Primary Election.
The list of candidates who filed will be updated periodically until the filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5.
If more than one candidate seeking the same office filed simultaneously, a lottery will decide the order their names appear on the ballot. The lottery will be held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 7 in the Clerk's office lobby, 69 W. Washington, Fifth Floor, Chicago.
All other candidates for office who filed after 9 a.m. on November 28, or who file from now through December 5, will appear on the ballot according to the order in which they filed.
Only candidates running for the following offices will submit their paperwork to the Clerk's office: Circuit Court Clerk; Recorder of Deeds; State’s Attorney; Board of Review – Districts 1, 2 & 3; Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioners; and Chicago Ward Committeemen.
All other candidates will file with the State Board of Elections in Springfield.
Objections to a candidate's nominating petitions can be filed until 5 p.m. on Dec. 12.
