At my urging, the Cook County Board of Commissioners today approved an amendment to the parking fee proposal that will allow suburban voters to use the Early Voting courthouse sites without paying for parking. It is imperative that we provide free access to voting sites and I commend the County Board, particularly commissioners Larry Suffredin and John Fritchey, for taking action.
In the 2008 primary and general elections, nearly 24,000 voters cast early ballots at the Bridgeview, Markham, Maywood, Rolling Meadows and Skokie locations. These sites – all open on Sundays during Early Voting – always see high traffic. I anticipate even greater turnout at the courthouses during the 2012 Early Voting periods, making this measure that much more vital.
