Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office conducted a lottery today to determine the candidate ballot positions in the March 21, 2006 primary election.
Candidates competing for the same office who filed simultaneously at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 participated in the lottery, which involved 37 candidates and 14 races.
All other candidates who filed to run for office after 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 until Dec. 19 will appear on the ballot according to the order in which they filed.

Every precinct in Cook County will hold elections to elect political party nominees for offices that include: governor and every other statewide office, U.S. representative, Illinois General Assembly, and countywide offices.
Only candidates running for a county office – county board president, clerk, sheriff, assessor, treasurer, county board commissioner (all 17 district seats), Board of Review commissioner (Districts 1 and 2), Metropolitan Water Reclamation District commissioner (three seats) as well as Democratic and Republican committeeman in every suburban township – submit their petitions to the Clerk’s office. All other candidates file with the State Board of Elections in Springfield.
The deadline for filing objections to a candidate’s nominating petitions was on Dec. 27 for county candidates and 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 for township committeeman candidates.
The Clerk’s office will periodically update the list of candidates and their status on its elections website – www.voterinfonet.com.
